Motivating students in English and Language Arts can be very difficult. Some students do not like English or Language Arts classes. In school I hated writing papers, reading books and doing spelling. I found English and Language Arts to not be very exciting and so did some of the other children. Teachers now have the opportunity to use the Internet or software to help motivate their students. The students can play educational games that help them with spelling and reading instead of just reading a book they get a chance to make spelling and reading exciting. I always liked reading a book and then watching a movie on that book. I think that that helps motivate some children by having them reading and giving them a reward to watch the movie of that book. Teachers have more opportunities to help motivate their students in English and Language Arts than what I had when I was in elementary or middle school. At work the children really enjoy the big story books that you can listen to. I think that it is important to give the children more opportunities than just handing them a book. It also helps them find a way that they enjoy reading or writing. The book also gives strategies for technology in English/ Language Arts which I would use is interactive storybooks or electronic books that help the students with reading and help them with reading activities. I think an Online book club would be interesting for the children to use. It would be a great way that they can read the book and then talk to other people that have read that book. I also like having a way to give the children rewards with their reading which I would use a tracking system that helps to motivate the students to read. Overall I think that it is very important for students to be motivated in school because they will enjoy it more and learn more. I also think that it is important for teachers to motivate and find ways to help their students with any subject.
I like the idea of an online book club. Students are spending an increasingly larger portion of their free time engaged with a computer online so it only makes sense to make as much of the homework or activities available online to them. They can be talking with their friends in one window about what happened at school while in a second window posting their comments about the last chapter of the book they read.
ReplyDeleteI think the idea of an online book club would be something fun for the students. Its something different and I think it would excite the students. I also think it would be interesting to see how the students interact during an online session compared to face/face in class when talking about a book. I also like this because students will be able to keep track of their comments and what they say to others from chapter to chapter. Student motivation is very important regardless of the grade or subject being taught. If students aren't motivated they will be unwilling to learn and create a negative classroom environment.
ReplyDeleteReading a book than watching its movie is always motivating but also informative. Through doing this students learn that there is often a lot of detail left out of the movies and that the charters don't look like the image they had in their head. I think this encourages students to read more in their daily life. Also, I love the idea of an online book club. It sounds so interactive and engaging. It combines reading with social networking which students seem to love.
